It's time for the Harbin Festival again

The annual International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival began today in Harbin, China. It runs every year from January 5th for a month. We've followed the festival in previous years, and this year is proving to be just as spectacular as past events, if not more so, judging by photographs released so far. Here are a few that have arrived in my e-mail inbox over the past few days.

Snow sculptures are also part of the Festival's offerings. Here's one copied from a famous painting by Russian artist Ilya Repin titled 'Barge Haulers on the Volga' (which may be viewed at the link).

It looks like the locals have been celebrating the completion of all the exhibits, in time-honored cold-climate fashion!

You can see more pictures in articles at the Daily Mail and the New York Daily News; and an Internet search will doubtless yield more fruit over the next few days and weeks, as more photographs from festival-goers are placed online.

The Harbin Festival is definitely on my 'bucket list' of places to go and things to see and do before I die.
